It is also important to note that some of the collecting tips provided could also apply to reprints or later editions of that title by other publishers. When reprinting a title, it is not uncommon that another publisher may use a similar graphic and font design, or the same artwork on their book or dust jacket as the original publisher used. A good example is in comparing the Book of the Month Club editions with the William Morrow & Company first editions. These two publications will often appear almost identical, with the exception of the William Morrow edition having the price printed on the inside flap of the dust jacket, and sometimes a few other inconspicuous differences.
Additionally, it is always recommended that you review your book and its dust jacket carefully to confirm that the original publisher is consistently listed as the publisher of your edition, and that there are no later printings indicated. Our goal is to contribute some accurate tips to assist you in determining if you possess a first edition of the original printing. Obviously, the more details you gather, the more successful you will be.
BOOK VALUES......A book's resale value is determined by many things..... popularity of the author, availability of the editions, condition of the book, condition of the dust jacket, demand, timing, customer exposure, etc.......

ABE (formerly Advanced Book Exchange) is a conglomerate of out-of-print book dealers, and is the world's largest online source for new and used books, with over 110 million books listed. Ebay is the world's largest online auction site. As a member of ebay, you can search past sales, to determine what certain books went for, or if they sold at all. You might consider comparing the selling price of books on ebay, to the prices listed on ABE (which may sell quickly, or be available for years) to help provide some insight to your book's value. As mentioned, the condition of a book, and the availability and condition of its dust jacket, have a direct impact on the value, so keep this in mind when searching.
