"Against the grim background of England at war, the romance of Jerry Chambers and Mona Stevens stands out like an unexpected spring day in the midst of a brutal winter.
Jerry is a flying officer in the R.A.F., and as the story opens, completely fed up with the routine of coastal patrol off Portsmouth. At the hotel which is the hangout of the officers in the various services, he sees Mona. She has taken the job of barmaid at the Royal Clarence because it is more exciting than anything else she can find to do. They are both young, both lonely, both ingenuous, innocent and groping. It might have turned out to be just another wartime romance, but Jerry's job got him into serious trouble from which there seemed to be no escape and from which there might have been no escape if it hadn't been from the loyalty and wisdom of Mona Stevens." |

|
Another American edition of this title that closely resembles the first edition is the Triangle Books edition. Both share the same art work on the dust jacket cover, however the Triangle edition has a black border at the bottom with the words, "THE POIGNANT LOVE STORY OF AN R.A.F. PILOT WHO SANK A BRITISH SUBMARINE BY MISTAKE. |

| As is typical with the Triangle Edition, it is dimensionally smaller, the front cover measuring approximately 7-3/4" long X 5-1/4" wide. The book cover of this edition is aqua with a decorative rectangle in the center. The front cover of the Morrow first edition measures approximately 8-1/2" long X 5-3/4" wide and has wavy blue lines running across a section of the front. |

| Additionally, the copyright page of the reprint edition states that the Triangle Books edition was published in August 1942. Obviously, the William Morrow & Company 1st Edition doesn't. |
